Alpha Scholarship Beautillion

Since Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s inception in 1906, our fraternity has strived to be a pillar for positive change in the African-American and global community. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. is first and foremost an intercollegiate fraternity. As all things must change, our fraternity has also evolved into a service organization and has provided leadership and service throughout both World Wars, and the Civil Rights Movement. Alpha has also addressed many of the world’s most important social issues such as apartheid, AIDS, urban housing, and other economic, cultural, and political issues affecting people of color. The Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation and World Policy Council are programs of Alpha Phi Alpha, and the fraternity jointly leads philanthropic programming initiatives with the March of Dimes, Head Start, Boy Scouts of America, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America.

The Beta Tau Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha is based in Fort Worth, Texas and serves as the Fort Worth area graduate chapter. This chapter allows post-graduate members of Alpha Phi Alpha, to continue their service to the organization. A proud achievement of the chapter is the annual beautillion. This year the chapter will be assembling its eleventh annual class for the 2015 Alpha Beautillion. The Beautillion is a formal event in the spring of each year that allows the beaux, a select group of high school seniors, to be presented to society. The Beautillion program is open to both juniors and high school seniors, however only the seniors are presented in the spring. It is our hope that the juniors will take their place in the following class having gained even more knowledge and fellowship over the last two years.

Prior to the Beautillion, these young men participate in community service projects, team building activities and seminars to help educate them about college scholarships and forging their future. Our firm goal is to treat the preceding activities as a rites of passage ceremony, which has been a deep tradition in our African culture. These activities culminate in the Beautillion, a ceremony that allows the beaux to be recognized and celebrated for their outstanding achievements as young men. At the end of the event, scholarships are presented to the beaux based upon grades, fundraising and their participation in community service activities. This rite-of-passage program is a special and momentous occasion in the lives of these young men and their families.

We strive to be an example for these young men, encouraging leadership, brotherhood and academic excellence. It is our honor to help build pillars of strength and integrity for future generations through our Beautillion program.
